Dubrovnik, Adriatic charm

Perfect for a beach break and a city break rolled into one, the city of Dubrovnik is one of Croatia's most popular holiday destinations, overlooking the waters of the Adriatic Sea. Described by George Bernard Shaw as ''paradise on Earth'', the city has also gained prominence since heavily featuring as a filming location for Game of Thrones. Offering mostly pebbly beaches, Banje beach is the most centrally located, while the most unspoilt can be found on the nearby Elaphite islands. The old town is the main attraction of the walled city, and has even been awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status. Many of the buildings date back to the city's Golden Age in the 16th century, when it became rich with merchants and diplomats bringing trade and sophistication to Dubrovnik's shores. Wander the streets to discover the various palaces, Baroque churches and the stunning cathedral, or take the cable car to see the old town and the coastline from above as you travel to the summit of Mount Srd.
