Your guide to Bangkok

VIEW GUIDE

An Asian metropolis that never sleeps, Bangkok is the lively capital of Thailand, combining both a feast of traditional culture and religion with a slice of the modern age, seen in its skyscrapers and shopping centres. Each district has its own treasures to offer, with one of the best ways to travel around being on the authentic tuk-tuk, meandering through the busy streets as you wish. As Thailand's capital, you'll find a host of dazzling temples and palaces throughout Bangkok, including the Grand Palace, which is home to the country's kings and queens and showcases incredible architectural craftsmanship. Locals will also recommend the Golden Mount, where at the summit you'll discover enchanting statues and prayer bells, as well as Wat Arun, a grand temple overlooking the eastern bank of the river, which looks truly spectacular as the sun rises. There's also tours on the River Kwai, as well as visits to tiger temples, waterfalls, floating markets and elephant sanctuaries to experience if you're seeking a longer stay. Bangkok is also a shopper's delight and you'll find a number of great deals here ranging from authentic crafts to cut-price electronics. Besides the enormous shopping centres, the famous Patpong Night Market is another place to shop until you drop, and is surrounded by some of the bars and clubs that have made Bangkok known the world over for its vibrant nightlife.
